MaKhaila Between The Sheets

Boudoir, Portraits, Woman

MaKhaila and I’s sessions have developed a very familiar pattern. One of us has an idea and reaches out to the other, we get excited about the concept, and setup a time and location to meet at. We leave space for collaboration at every step of the process and connect as creatives. Think the buzz word “synergy.”

For this particular session I’d come across an image I was inspired by and sent it to her. “Let’s do it!” was the response and within an hour we were creating. Having accomplished the original idea (which I will share in a later post) we freestyled through more poses and lighting setups which produced these images. I like to think of these “unplanned miracles.” Those are the portraits that you didn’t originally set out to capture but you fall in love with them when you see them. When the outtakes are this good it’s pretty safe to call the session a success.

As a model, MaKhaila does what I consider to be flow posing. She only needs a general outline of what you want from her and she moves through motions and gestures from there. I always enjoy working with this style of modeling because it allows for some pleasant surprises. In real time I get to be challenged and have to think quick on my feet (and sometimes lying on the floor) to capture the portrait.

A NOTE ON A MODEL’S COMFORT: Fellow photographers it is super important that you discuss all concepts and boundaries prior to the shoot to get an idea of what you and your model are comfortable with. At all times ask the model if they are comfortable with a pose, especially any revealing ones, and be open and receptive to the answer “no.”

Let’s keep it safe and clean out there!
