Let’s go through the journey of capturing Mercedes in a denim look inspired by the iconic vintage Gap magazine ads.

As a photographer, one of the most exhilarating aspects of my craft is the opportunity to collaborate with talented individuals to bring creative visions to life. This shoot was no exception, with Mercedes as our stunning model and Chanya lending her expertise as the makeup artist.

The concept for this shoot was born out of a love for nostalgia and timeless style. We wanted to evoke the spirit of those classic Gap ads that defined an era, while also infusing our own modern twist. And what better way to do that than with denim?

Now, let’s talk about the star of the show: our lighting setup. We opted for an overhead lighting arrangement that cast a soft, diffused glow over Mercedes, accentuating every contour and curve. To fill our shadows we incorporated parabolic umbrella. The result? A series of images that exude an ethereal quality, reminiscent of dreamy summer afternoons flipping through fashion magazines.

Of course, no shoot is without its unexpected moments, and this one was no different. During setup and for absolutely no reason other than it being funny, I managed to take a tumble mid-shoot, knocking down most of my setup in the process (RIP 4ft of white background paper). But I got up, dusted myself off, and got back to the business of making magic. Sometimes, you just have to laugh at life’s little mishaps to keep the creative juices flowing… at least that’s what I learned from Mercedes and Chanya’s loud laughing!

Jokes aside, Mercedes remained poised and professional, effortlessly embodying the essence of cool sophistication. Her confidence in front of the camera is always truly inspiring, and it’s a testament to her talent as a model.
